Crafty Cats!
Crafty Cats will host a small group of cat-loving autistic tweens, ages 11-13yo and their families.
We’ll create cat-themed arts & crafts projects in a neurodiversity-affirming setting. Special guest: Dr. Anne Symonds (veterinarian)
This event is 100% free and made possible through our partners ArtsAVL and Buncombe County and sponsors, local businesses The Cat Clinic and The Love Cats. Admission is via lottery, which will be open January 19th-23rd, 2026. Get on our mailing list to receive updates.
CAN’T WAIT to celebrate all things CATS!
Makerspace!
At Makerspace, we’ll invite a small group of autistic children ages 7-10 and their adults to engage in a morning of community art making.
We’ll use BIG cardboard boxes, kid-safe tools, and simple art supplies, along with recycled and found materials, to make some serious creative magic happen!
Each event has a theme as a jumping off point, but we won’t limit your child’s creativity. Past participants have built life-sized unicorns, time machines, stuffed animal and doll palaces, pirate ships, aquariums, cat castles, robot costumes, and more. Our theme for this event is “Where the Wild Things Are: Wearable Creature Costumes.!” We’ll have prototypes and materials handy for things like animal masks, wings, antennas, noses, feet, talons, horns, tails. . . plus supplies and support for whatever your child dreams up!
Makerspace offers opportunities for autonomous play, self-paced breaks, and supportive, neuro-affirming support in a space that centers and values the needs and preferences of autistic children. This event is 100% FREE, made possible via generous grant funding from ArtsAVL and Buncombe County. We use a lottery system to keep our events small, manageable, and autistic-friendly.
